Many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends. How has global fashion become such a strong influence on people's lives? Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
Nowadays, fashion has become one of the most important industries in most countries. International fashion trends can shape the personal styles of many people worldwide. There are several reasons for this, and I firmly believe this development is negative.
Thanks to mass production, global fashion trends now impact individuals globally. The key reason is that producing a huge amount of clothes can lead to lower prices, so most consumers from all financial backgrounds around the world are able to purchase these goods. Furthermore, this high number of clothes produced through mass manufacturing is sent to numerous global chains worldwide. Therefore, this widespread availability of fashion clothing has enabled most individuals to dress in the same way. Customers in China, for instance, can purchase the same clothes chosen by Americans.
However, I would argue that international fashion has some potential drawbacks on the environment. One of the major problems associated with global fashion is the release of a massive amount of toxic fumes from factories, where thousands of meters of fabric are dyed with chemical colors to produce clothes. These harmful gases can have many devastating impacts on animals breathing them. Moreover, when people can purchase many cheap new clothes, they are more likely to throw away their second-hand ones after a while. As a consequence, the raw unrecyclable materials available in these clothes would stay in nature for thousands of years, which can be harmful to animals and humans.
In conclusion, I believe it cannot be denied that the way many people around the world choose their clothes is shaped by international trends because of mass production. Meanwhile, this development has many environmental problems.
