Young people are often influenced in their behaviors by others in the same age group. Some argue that peer pressure is important, while others feel it has distinct disadvantages. Do the disadvantages of peer pressure outweigh the advantages?
Nowadays, young generations can easily indulge their habits by observing others of an equal age. A section of people believes that being pressured by friends has significant advantages, while others consider it a drawback. In this essay, I will discuss both views.
On the one hand, peer pressure can yield several benefits. Youngsters have a natural tendency to learn quickly from their surroundings. Being exposed to a positive peer group at an early age can encourage the development of good habits, such as regular exercise, choosing the right friends, helping others, and healthy eating habits. For instance, if a child is surrounded by peers who actively participate in sports and maintain a healthy diet, they are more likely to adopt this lifestyle and lead a quality life.
On the other hand, the drawbacks of pressurizing kids into certain behaviors cannot be neglected. Many youths overlook guidance from peers when it becomes controlling. This can lead them in the wrong direction, causing them to choose the wrong friends. Such decisions can lead them to negative behaviors, such as drinking, illegal driving, shoplifting, and drug use. Therefore, controlling kids through peer pressure can push them towards crime.
To evaluate both perspectives, peer pressure on youngsters has its own benefits and drawbacks. It totally depends on how the individual treats the child and the circumstances they create.
