There is a trend of increasing amounts of consumer goods, which leads to environmental problems. What are the reasons for this trend? Give your own opinion and solutions.
The increased number of environmental problems is caused by the high demand for consumer products. This essay believes that the main problems associated with the increasing trend of consumer goods are increased environmental pollution and loss of biodiversity and suggests creating committees as a viable solution.
The principal problems with people buying more consumer goods are pollution and low biodiversity. With increasing demand for goods, factories emit larger amounts of pollutants such as carbon dioxide and sulfates into the air, thereby causing the destruction of the ozone layer. As well as this, to reinforce production rates, companies cut down forests and kill animals. These actions cause the massive extinction of some animal and tree species. Despite fines and sanctions imposed on companies, this trend has seen a massive rise in the past 30 years. For example, 45% of Amazon tropical forests have already been destroyed by humans, and scientists assert that it will require at least 150,000 years to fully recover the Amazon rainforests from the damage.
A solution to these worrying problems is creating specialized committees to fight against crimes committed against the environment. If governments unite and provide sufficient financing to such a committee, world problems like the extinction of rare animal and tree species will not be a problem anymore. Moreover, ecologists conclude that it is possible to prevent this tendency by informing people about the negative effects of pollution. For instance, Japan has registered a 39% decrease in the number of plastics thrown into the ocean simply by creating a fine of $1,500 with an additional criminal punishment of 15 days in prison.
In conclusion, the main problems with the rising trend of consumer goods are environmental pollution and poor biodiversity. These can be solved by appointing a committee to combat such damages.
