Around the world, rural people are moving to cities and urban areas, so populations in the countryside are decreasing. Is this a positive or negative development?
Nowadays, in different countries, rural individuals are relocating to cities and towns, which creates some challenges regarding decreasing populations in the countryside. This essay will examine the pros and cons of this trend.
On the one hand, the migration of rural residents to cities can lead to economic growth. In fact, in some countries, rural people do not have wide access to job opportunities. For this reason, they do not participate effectively in economic activities. For instance, India has large communities of rural people that are not developed. Indeed, this portion of society is more consumer than productive, and people in these areas have not had a positive role in increasing government incomes. In contrast, when they migrate to industrial areas such as towns and cities, they try to earn a living and improve their living standards.
On the other hand, in developed countries, facilities are distributed in different areas, including the countryside and suburbs of cities. These areas help maintain cultural diversity and can be a symbol of a country's civilization. Truly, their cultural impact means that under no circumstances do governments allow the elimination of rural populations. For example, Japan is a country with a wide range of traditions in traditional regions that have their specific customs. Annually, several million sightseers travel to this country to learn more about local culture, and the government is aware of this trend and helps to preserve villages.
In conclusion, moving rural people to cities can have benefits such as participation in economic growth and drawbacks including the elimination of cultural diversity.
