It is argued that workdays in a week should be shorter, and instead, employees should have a longer weekend. Personally, I do not agree with this point of view. This essay will discuss this topic before clarifying my own opinion. Some individuals believe that the working week should be shorter, and all workers should have a longer weekend. They argue that the benefits of a longer weekend should be considered by employers. On the positive side, a longer weekend plays a crucial role in terms of increasing workers’ well-being. It is undeniable that the majority of workers will be overwhelmed by various stressors and negative feelings in their workplace, and as a result, they require a weekend to help them feel refreshed and at peace. Furthermore, in some cases, work commitments can be boring, and hence, all employees need to take a break from their monotonous tasks at the workplace as a trigger for beginning the following working week. On the negative side, having a longer weekend can decrease workers’ income, or they may lose financial facilities such as extra pay or low-interest rate loans, which are paid based on working hours in some companies. While it is believed that all individuals can benefit from a longer weekend rather than workdays, another group argues that some workers who suffer from overthinking or other psychological problems can benefit from working by being distracted from their worries or negative thoughts. Additionally, employees can earn more money with a long working week than a longer weekend, and consequently, for a group of people who are futuristic and care more about money, having a longer weekend could not be as satisfying as a shorter working week. In conclusion, while it is contended that the working week should be shorter, and employees should have a longer weekend, from my perspective, the advantages of a long working week outweigh the advantages of a longer weekend. I believe having a short break on the weekend can be beneficial for both managers and workers.
