Some people think technology development decreases crime, while others believe it actually encourages crime. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. In the modern era, the correlation between technology and crime has emerged as a matter of significant debate and attention. While some people argue that it can be considered a deterrent for crime, others opine that technology can stimulate the rate of breaking laws. In this essay, I will examine both viewpoints in favor of the latter idea. Proponents of the former idea are of the opinion that advances in technology have provided governments with state-of-the-art facilities to track down criminals precisely. For instance, using advanced surveillance systems is a practical way to discourage offenders and criminals from breaking the law and bothering citizens. Moreover, as criminals’ backgrounds are saved in databases, the police can follow their activities with more sensitivity and decrease the likelihood of re-offending. On the other hand, technology has opened a door to advanced crimes. In other words, the more technology has progressed, the more heinous offenses have emerged. Laundering, the theft of personal information through emails or online shops, and sexual abuse are just a few examples. Additionally, numerous young and intelligent people have been drawn to criminal networks to make a fortune overnight. One survey revealed that the percentage of intelligent students who have turned to illegal activities is more than that of their counterparts with moderate intelligence. What if the number of genius individuals drawn to crime increases with this trend? In conclusion, although science and technology have played roles in restricting some petty crimes and, in some cases, controlling ex-offenders, they have also created looming platforms with irreparable and catastrophic consequences.
